The Signature Clayton Tour Experience: Gilded, Not Golden
Join PA Museums for a 35-40 minutes of presentation focusing first on some general context about the Frick Pittsburgh's Gilded, Not Golden tours (which was a dramatic change for the site) and the whys and hows behind it, and then a look at 3-4 specific examples of strategies they used to creatively reinterpret spaces in ways that could also be accessible for other places to use.
Launched in May 2023, these tours offers visitors an immersive experience into the year of 1892, a pivotal moment in Pittsburgh's history and the era of the Gilded Age.

Unlike traditional house tours, the Gilded, Not Golden tour delves deeper into the lives of real people who lived in Clayton, the late 19th-century home of industrialist Henry Clay Frick and his family. Through engaging dialogue and inclusive narratives, visitors explore the social, economic, and political complexities of Pittsburgh during this era, including the impact of wealth disparity, social unrest, and industrialization.
Developed through an 18-month collaborative effort involving the Learning & Visitor Experience and Curatorial departments, the tour was meticulously researched and planned. It received support from internal stakeholders, external consultants, and community partners, reflecting The Frick Pittsburgh's dedication to community engagement and dialogue.
